Description

Oasys Suite 19.0

Crashworthiness

For many automotive companies, LS-DYNA is a tool for understanding the deformation of complex systems such as vehicle structures. The ability of LS-DYNA to model contacts and its wide range of material models make it ideally suited for this type of analysis. It also includes a number of specific features for automotive applications such as airbags, accelerometers, and adhesive connection modelling.

Drop Testing

LS-DYNA has been used to simulate impact events for many years, ranging from small electronic products such as mobile phones and laptop computers, to large nuclear fuel containers. Features include:

  • Fluid Structure Coupling (ALE / SPH) for modelling liquid filled containers
  • Element Free Galerkin (EFG) for modelling cracks
  • Explicit–implicit switching for studying steady state deformation

Manufacturing Processes

LS-DYNA can be used to model and analyse manufacturing processes and to assess a proposed metal forming process and tool design. Along with the forming process users can simulate trimming and springback. Processes supported include:

  • Deep Drawing and Springback
  • Rolling, Pressing, Forging, Casting and Spinning
  • Superplastic Forming
  • Multi-stage Processes and Metal Cutting
  • Roller Hemming and Profile Rolling

Blast and High Velocity Impact

LS-DYNA can be used for the simulation of high energy events making it well suited to blast events. It is possible to simulate air blasts as well as buried explosive charges and blast loads on structures. Blast methods include:

  • ConWep Analysis.
  • Fluid–structure Interaction Analysis.
  • Can also combine pressure time history data taken from external tests.

Frequency Domain Analysis

LS-DYNA offers frequency domain analysis capabilities including:

  • Response Function
  • Steady State Dynamics
  • Random Vibration
  • Acoustic Boundary Element Method
  • Acoustic Finite Element Method
  • Response Spectrum
  • Fatigue Analysis

Composites

Composite materials can be modelled in LS-DYNA using a combination of specialist material models and ply material angle data. Varying material definition and material angle can be specified through the thickness of the component, and ply failure can be included in the material definition.

  • Material models can simulate both fibre and matrix failure
  • Layered shell elements for modelling ply layup
  • Uniaxial and bidirectional fabric material models
  • Detailed output on the different failure modes
